When I meet with clients for the first time who are looking to transform their businesses and ultimately, achieve success, discussing the challenges they face is key. However, I also like to take some time to focus on the future. Ultimately, I want to help you turn your business dreams into reality.
So, with this in mind, I’m going to talk about the importance of recognising your dreams and how to achieve them.
“You’ve got to have a dream. If you don’t have a dream, how you gonna have a dream come true?”
This is one of my favourite quotes from the musical South Pacific. I refer to it in my book The Keys To The Safe
when discussing how all the greatest achievers in business have dreams.
The first step is to decide what you want! By taking some time out to make some positive decisions about what you want, you will quickly gain some clarity on the direction that is right for you and your business.
A word of warning! If you fail to decide on your own dreams, fate will make that decision for you, and there’s a chance it won’t be what you were hoping for.
Without action, your dreams will remain dreams.
Once you have your dreams firmly in place, it’s important to think of them as your compass. Without them, any actions you undertake for the benefit of your business will be without purpose.
For many of us, our dreams may be big, and that’s great! But, this means they can appear daunting too.
A piece of advice I give to all my clients is, once you establish your dreams, take your mind off the big prize and instead, shift your focus to the individual steps that’ll get you there.
Ultimately, business owners need to have a clear understanding of where they are heading (their dreams) and ensure that all of their next steps have the action and purpose to bring them closer to their goals.
There is no quick fix.
When we look at any of the great achievers in life, from Richard Branson to Walt Disney, none of them had it easy. They all experienced challenges along the way before they made it big and achieved their dreams.
You will experience setbacks, and the journey won’t always be a straight line, but with belief, your dreams will eventually come true.
In my book The Keys To The Safe
, I not only talk about how to achieve your dreams but have also devised a helpful exercise to enable you to gain an understanding of your business aspirations.
There’s plenty more to come… Look out for my next blog post when I will be filling you in on the key characteristics of information that every business owner MUST have.
